Electric mountain bike/VTC ride: From Villegly to the Canal du Midi, between vineyards and heritage
Dive into the heart of the Minervois with this superb ride on an electric VTC or muscular Gravel , accessible to all.
This varied, relatively flat 30km circuit takes you to discover the Canal du Midi , authentic villages and typical wine-growing landscapes of the Aude. A perfect adventure to combine nature, culture and heritage .
In summer, this magnificent route can be subject to heat, it is ideal early in the morning and bring plenty of water!
ℹ️This circuit can be done in both directions but it is recommended to do it in this order!

📍 Departure: Villegly and direction the Canal du Midi
We leave Villegly, a charming village dominated by its 19th-century castle and the magnificent Moulin de Sainte Anne , to take a hilly and winding road , ideal for a pleasant warm-up. Little by little, the landscapes change: the pine forests give way to the vineyards , announcing the proximity of the Canal du Midi .
🏡 Passing through Bagnoles: a picturesque village
First stop in Bagnoles , a charming village marked by:
✅ Its authentic alleys with the typical Minervois character.
✅ Its wine-growing landscapes , offering beautiful views of the surrounding hills.
🏰 Stop in Malves-en-Minervois: between castle and history
A few kilometers away, Malves-en-Minervois is worth a break:
✅ Its medieval castle , listed and housing a contemporary art center .
✅ Its wine-growing heritage , ideal for a local tasting.
⚠️ Be careful when crossing the D101 , a fast-moving road. After a few dozen meters, turn left at Lamée , then join a pretty, quieter little road until you reach the D201 .
🚴 Heading towards the Bishop's Lock: along the Canal du Midi
After a short section on the D201 , turn right towards the Écluse de l'Évêque . This peaceful place is an unmissable stopover:
✅ A beautiful work of the Canal du Midi , listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
✅ A shaded and peaceful setting , ideal for a refreshing break.
Make way for the tranquility of the canal, lined with century-old plane trees and punctuated by locks where you can watch the boats cross the levels with millimeter precision. The atmosphere is unique, between reflections of the water, birdsong and the softness of the shaded paths .
🌊 Between the Bishop's Lock and Trèbes: a remarkable section
This section is one of the most pleasant to explore by mountain bike/electric mountain bike . The route along the canal alternates between well-maintained tracks and small paths lined with lush vegetation. The route is punctuated by the Villedubert lock , another fine example of the expertise of 17th-century builders.
The progression is fluid and soothing, offering varied panoramas between calm water, vineyards in the background and small picturesque bridges . A real interlude out of time before reaching Trèbes .
🏡 Trèbes: between the Canal du Midi and gastronomy
Trèbes is a major part of this walk, with several points of interest:
✅ The Port of the Canal du Midi , lively and perfect for a relaxing break.
✅ The Saint-Étienne church , with its remarkable stained-glass windows.
✅ Waterfront restaurants , where you can enjoy local cuisine facing the canal.
🍇 Through the vineyards of Minervois towards Laure-Minervois
Leave Trèbes towards Laure-Minervois , taking a pretty road crossing the Minervois vineyards .
🏡 Laure-Minervois: authentic wine-growing village
Laure-Minervois invites you to discover:

✅ Its historic fountains and wash houses , witnesses to the village's rural past.
Turn left towards Villarzel-Cabardès , and enjoy a superb stretch of rolling landscapes. One of the highlights of the ride , this magnificent winding road climbs gently towards Villarlong and Villarzel-Cabardes amidst vineyards and pine forests typical of the Aude and Minervois
🏰 The magnificent Villarlong Castle
On your way, you will pass close to the Château de Villarlong , a sumptuous building, a witness to medieval architecture and now transformed into a high-end residential estate.

In Villarzel-Cabardès , enjoy:
✅ A panoramic view of the Montagne Noire and the Aude plain .
✅ Its rich heritage, with medieval remains .
🚴♂️ Return to Villegly by a small bucolic road
Finish your tour by taking a peaceful and picturesque road , crossing the authentic landscapes of Cabardès to Villegly , where you will find your starting point at Easy Vélo Carcassonne .
